What do you do to make a comeback?

Yesterday's 4 miles in the rain revealed a few things.
My abs and core are trash!
My lower back is as sore as if I ran 50 miles!
I need to hit the cross-training seriously!
I'm not ready for mileage yet, 4 miles kicked my butt (though it felt good)

what do you do to come back?
